The site for the workshop will be held at the Seven Stars Hotel, in the heart of the historic riverside town of Totnes, in Devon, easily accessible by plane car or train. The workshop runs from 10:00 am- 6pm Saturday and Sunday with classes, demonstrations, group playing scheduled throughout the day. Saturday evening will be an informal student concert.

The workshop will cover the styles and playing techniques of country blues, ragtime and gospel guitar playing with the emphasis on learning new repertoire.  Some of the ideas covered will be syncopated picking techniques, how to 'play off' the chords and understand the logic of the fretboard, improvising within a tune, open tunings and ways to develop your own sound. The workshop will focus on the concepts and techniques that connect the various styles of acoustic blues guitar playing and teach them in a clear and practical manner. The repertoire of the early masters including Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Blake, Skip James, Lonnie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Charlie Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson and others will be covered.

Throughout the day there will be time for one on one instruction, workshops, jamming and time for individual lessons. In addition to the scheduled morning and early afternoon sessions, there will be late afternoon workshops covering a wide variety of specific topics. Total workshop enrollment is limited so to focus on the needs of individual students. The goal is to create a relaxed non-competitive workshop environment where everyone from beginning students to advanced players will be able to focus in on ways to further their music, understand their craft, have the chance to perform in the informal Saturday evening student concert. Beginner/intermediate players will be taught the fundamentals of fingerpicking and blues while more advanced players will be able to move ahead into more complex styles and tunes. The goal of the weekend is to offer offer new repertoire, practical ideas, and a historical perspective to the art of acoustic blues guitar.
